Letter to the Hamilton County Express Editor

Volume 75: Number 18 edition dated May 3-9, 2023 – Hamilton County Express

Dear Editor and Hamilton County Residents,

Please allow this letter to serve as a way of introduction. Some of you know me personally or have already opened your door to me since I began my campaign, but there are many of you that I have not had the pleasure of meeting yet. While I hope to meet you in person and would enjoy chatting over a cup of coffee, I will begin with this letter.

My name is Carole Ruiz, and I am running to be your next Hamilton County Clerk. I am a year-round Hamilton County Resident; and have been so for 4 ½ years. Now I may be “new” to the area, but I have lived in the Adirondacks since 2011. I hope that I can prove my love for and devotion to this place I call home and help you see that it has no bearing on my ability to do what is best for Hamilton County. I willingly and happily choose Hamilton County every day.

I decided to run for Hamilton County Clerk because I have significant concerns over the importance of this office and the number of critical employees looking to retire in the next two years. Every Hamilton County resident is impacted by the work done in the County Clerk’s office, whether it is a 17-year-old getting their driver’s license for the first time, a happy couple who needs a marriage license, or a required deed for a real estate transaction. We need someone who can handle multiple facets of a position, is a quick learner, is a good problem solver, is trustworthy, and is organized with great attention to detail. We also need someone with strong management, leadership, and communication skills. (I also think kindness and a friendly smile go a long way in any business – am I wrong?)

I believe that I am this person. I started my career in the banking industry in 2002 and handled large volumes of commercial transactions. When I was 19 years old, I was recruited to work in a law office and quickly moved up to Legal Assistant. I was in charge of filing electronic petitions and answering pleadings with the Camden County courts. My experience in customer service grew, as did my knowledge of handling and filing necessary documents. After receiving my bachelor’s degree from Davis College in Binghamton, NY, in 2007, I dove headlong into owning and operating a small business.

As a partner of an LLC, my experience and knowledge grew in finance, bookkeeping, budgeting, tax filing, customer service, time management, web design, and website creation. On top of my in-depth computer and web knowledge, I am also experienced in writing web languages, using complex software, and generating documents for the web, including, but not limited to, form-fillable PDFs. My skills and experience over the past 21 years have prepared me to be the best candidate for Hamilton County Clerk.

In 2020, I became the manager of the Lake Pleasant Lodge in Speculator, NY where I handled all aspects of daily operations, marketing and customer relations. Currently, I work in the Hamilton County Personnel Department as Assistant to the Personnel Officer. In the coming weeks you may see my family and me riding bikes, driving out to Northville for little league, or shopping (daily) at Charlie John’s. If you do, feel free to stop and introduce yourself. If you’d like, you can reach me at (518) 223-9834 and carole@caroleruiz.us or learn more about me at https://caroleruiz.us. As I am going door to door, I hope to find myself on your doorstep one day soon.

Sincerely,

Carole Ruiz
